SAUSAGE MACHINE EDUCATION!!
More pupils in the UK are taking international GCSEs, figures from exam boards suggest. http://www.bbc.co.uk/go/em/fr/-/news/education-19101958
The reason that schools are turning towards IGCSE is twofold. Firstly, the enormous shortcomings of the present GCSE system in depth and quality. Secondly, a linear syllabus (or Specification as we were suddenly and mysteriously asked to call them some years ago) allows teachers to explore subjects and develop student understanding by linking themes in subjects over a two year period. Students are required to build up a gradual understanding and interlink that knowledge to give them a solid grasp of the subject matter.
The modular GCSE qualifications that have been rattled out during the decline of GCSE quality produce an ethos where students are encouraged to pass and move on. This is sausage machine education where passing is placed miles ahead of learning and understanding.
